Hallo Roland,

It is possible for one of these engines to rev well past 7000rpm, to 8500rpm, for example, but there is a cost. That cost is, in the first instance, greatly accelerated wear in the short assembly (cylinder block, bearings, crankshaft journals and other related componentry). For an engine revving to 8500rpm on a continous basis, the rate of wear can be four or five times as great (or more) as that for an engine reving only to 7000rpm on a continous basis. this means that whereas a 7000rpm engine might do 2000 racing miles before needing new rings and bearings, an 8000-8500rpm engine will most likelyneed new rings, bearings and a crankshaft grind after only 200-300 racing miles.
